Hi, I'm Madhurya!

I’m a designer based in New York City, originally from Bangalore, India. I recently graduated from the dual degree program at Parsons School of Design, where I studied Product Design and Psychology — an intersection that continues to shape most of my work.

My practice is rooted in empathy, curiosity, and intention. When I approach a problem, I care deeply about understanding the people it affects. I spend time researching, listening, asking questions, and making sense of human behavior so that the final outcome feels not only useful and intuitive, but also emotionally resonant and meaningful. Sometimes that leads to the simplest solutions, like circular, stackable rings designed to protect people from deep-fry accidents. Other times, it leads to more expressive, origami-like structures. In any case, the solution always comes from the problem, the context, and the people I’m designing for.

A lot of the way I think and make comes from growing up in India, surrounded by culture, craft, materiality, and color in so many forms. I was always a creative kid — practicing Carnatic music, learning textile and paper crafts, oil painting, baking, and experimenting with anything I could get my hands on. My first love, though, was swimming. I competed at state and national meets, and the discipline, resilience, and focus I built through the sport still shape the way I work today.

These experiences continue to shape the way I design. I have always been drawn to making, experimenting, and solving problems through different materials, methods, and perspectives. Most importantly, they have made me question: how can design make everyday interactions feel easier, more joyful, and more human?
